Which airport should I fly into?

Narita International Airport and Haneda Airport are two major international airports in Japan. Most of you will most likely be flying in from one of these airports.

  • Narita International Airport (about 1 hour from Tokyo) is Japan’s main international airport with flights coming in from all over the world.
  • Haneda Airport (about 40 minutes into Tokyo) is a smaller airport with convenient direct flights from Asia and Europe.

How do I get to the race start line?

The race has arranged special charter buses departing from Shinjuku Station (in Tokyo) to Matsuzaki. There will be 2 departure times on Saturday, Dec. 10th - 7:30am and 12:30pm.

Rates are 7,000 yen per person.  See "Accommodation & Transportation" for details.

If you plant to get to Matsuzaki on your own, there are various ways to get to Matsuzaki from both the Narita and Haneda Airports. The best option will vary depending on what time you arrive, travel time, and how much you're willing to spend on transportation.

Here are a few options:

From Narita Airport:

Option #1:  By Train & Bus (Japan Railway(JR), Fuji Hakone Railway, and Tokai Bus)

Narita to Tokyo (Narita Express, 60min)

Tokyo to Mishima (Bullet Train, 60min)

Mishima to Matsuzaki (Tokai Bus 120min)

Mishima to Shuzenji (Izu Hakone, 40min)

Shuzenji to Matsuzaki (Tokai Bus, 80-100min)

  • Takes approx. 3.5 - 4h with 2 to 3 transits
  • Relatively frequent service available for Narita Express and bullet trains
  • Tokai bus is less frequent - make sure to check the bus schedule beforehand!

Option #2:  By Train & Bus

Narita to Shinjuku (Narita Express,  85min)

Shinjuku to Shuzenji (Tokai Bus, 155min)

Shuzenji to Matsuzaki (Tokai Bus, 80-100min)

  • Takes approx. 5.5h
  • Tokai Highway bus: 2 trips per day - make sure to check the bus schedule beforehand!

From Haneda Airport:

If you fly into Haneda Airport, you need to first take a bus into Tokyo Station or Shinjuku Station. Once you've made your way to one of these train stations, refer to the above options 1 - 3  to make your way to Matsuzaki.
