The UTMF is a very challenging race and you will probably want to focus on having a good race without worrying about all the complicated travel details and logistics. We also know just how helpful it can be to have support at the aid stations during a long race. Avid Adventures Japan is here to make your overall UTMF experience an easier and memorable one by offering Accommodation & Race Support Packages for racers, friends and families.
The Avid Race Support Packages includes:
For 2019 we've prepared the following Accommodation Plans:
1) PLAN A: Japanese Guesthouse - Only a few rooms left (as of Mar 14)
2) PLAN B: Western Style Inn (Hotel Yesterday) - SOLD OUT
3) PLAN C: Japanese Traditional Ryokan (Nagahama Ryokan) - Only a few rooms left (as of Mar 14)
4) PLAN D: Western Style Hotel (Not available this year)
Each Plan offers different types of accommodations ranging from western style rooms with beds to Japanese tatami mat rooms with futons. All accommodations are conveniently located in the Kawaguchiko area within 0.1 - 4 km from the finish lines. Please read through the Plan descriptions (by clicking on the above links) to find one that meets your preferences and budget. Also feel free to contact us anytime if you have any questions or other requirements.
Families with small children
For those travelling with young children, we recommend Plan A.
From past experience, we've found that many racers end up crossing the finish line in the middle of the night/early morning without a place to shower or stay after the race. With the Avid package, you won't be left out in the cold! We'll be keeping your room for you for the entire duration of the race so that you can keep all your luggage at the hotel, take a hot bath/shower after the race and get some well deserved rest before heading home or to your next destination.
Avid will be holding a racer briefing in English for all participants signed up with Avid. We will go over the race course, rules, regulations and any updates regarding course changes, etc. to make sure that you're ready for the race. This will also be a good time to ask any last minute questions you might have about the race. Our team, has direct access to the race organizers and will be able to get answers for you quickly. We'll also be assisting you at racer check-in & the mandatory gear check to ensure that everything is okay and that you're all set for the race!
Supporters will also be able to get advice about the race/bus schedules so that you can plan your racer support weekend.
Location: Avid Lounge, Nashimiya Hotel in Kawaguchiko (approx. 5 minute walk from the finish area)
Avid will be organizing a volunteer support team to support you during the race!
AVID SUPPORT BAGS & DROP BAGS:
As per the official race website, there will be one drop bag half-way through the UTMF. Having supporters waiting for you at Aid Stations will allow you to plan out a strategy so that you don't have to carry everything with you throughout the race (although you'll need to carry your mandatory equipment at all times).
Our Avid support teams will be waiting for you at the following aid stations during the race.
- A2: FUMOTO (50km)
- A4: SHOJIKO (77km)
- A5: KATSUYAMA (94km)
- A7: YAMANAKAKO (128km)
Racers can prepare "Avid Support Bags" which we will transport and hand to you at the following aid stations: A2, A5 and A7
Note: There will also be one official UTMF Drop Bag which you can pick up on your own at A4 (the race organizers will be transporting the official drop bags).
You can put items you might want during the race in your Avid Support Bag as well as leave unneeded items in the support bag. (Note: We will not be able to move/transfer a support bag or items inside it from one aid station to another)
- Avid will be providing you with three plastic "Avid support bags" and name labels upon arrival at your hotel.
- There will be designated areas where you can leave your support bags for pick up by the Avid team before the race.
To the start of the race:
The Avid Packages include transportation by private shuttle bus from Kawaguchiko to Kodomo-no-kuni where the UTMF will start. The start area is about 1 hour away and we will leave early so that you can arrive in time for your race.
After the race:
During the race, we'll also be providing a round-the-clock shuttle service from the finish area back to your hotel (for Plans B and C). Accommodations in Plan A and D are within reasonable walking distance from the finish area.
The AVID LOUNGE & HELP DESK will be available for racers and supporters signed up with Avid. It will be very conveniently located in a hotel near the finish line in Ohike Kouen.
The lounge will have coffee & tea, free WIFI and is a great place to come and meet other international racers. The lounge will also serve as the Avid Headquarters and Avid volunteer staff will be on hand if you have any questions or need any assistance. Feel free to come and hang out with us before and/or during the race!
Open from Thursday. April 25 through until Sunday, April 28.
Running an ultra is a challenging but we also know that supporting a racer who's running 168km over 3 days is almost as challenging!
The official UTMF shuttle buses that go around the various aid stations do not run late at night and early in the morning. This makes it logistically difficult for family, friends and supporters to support their racers during the race. In order to "support the supporters", Avid will be running a private shuttle bus during the race making it possible for supporters (and racers) to head out to the aid stations more easily. Anyone signed up with Avid can freely get on and off this bus to go to the AVID aid stations.
(The Avid private shuttle bus schedule and the aid stations it will stop at will be posted here once the official course & aid stations are announced by the race.)
The Avid Team will also be there to assist supporters who may also want to ask questions (i.e. where's my racer?!) and get more information during the race. Our teams will be out at the aid stations around the clock, until every single Avid Racer comes through - so feel free to come join us at the aid stations while you're out there! The more the merrier!
After the race, kick back and relax at the Avid BBQ Party! This Japanese-style BBQ has been popular with all of our racers every year and is a great way to meet other racers from all around the world and spend time with family and friends.
We're planning an exciting traditional Japanese drum performance by a local drumming team and a tuna cutting demonstration (sushi!) by professional chef, Noboru Miyashita from Nagahama Ryokan to complete your Japanese trail running experience!
See here for some fun photos from previous years' after-the-race BBQ parties!
